eLEARNING ACCESSION PROJECT

The eLearning Accession Project that was being funded by KENET has come to an end.The project started in September 2011 and ended in April 2012 after the students did their final exams.

The title of the project was: E-LEARNING ECO-SYSTEM FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF MOBILE LEARNING, (A case of J.K.U.A.T IT Students).

The project involved twenty (21) third year BSc-IT students who were selected through a random sampling technique and used to learn through hand held gadgets such as phones, laptops and tablets that had been provided by the project team. They
were required to learn Artificial Intelligence unit electronically.

During the project period, they were facilitated with 1000 K sh worth of airtime for each month for the three months.

The team is now writing the final report for submission.

The e-learning Department held a one (1) day sensitization workshop for Top University Managers (UMB, Deans and Directors) on Monday 7th Feburuary 2012 at Sportsmanarms Hotel, Nanyuki.

The DVC (RPE), Prof E. Kahangi, Dean (Faculty of Science); Prof Mary Ndungu and Director (ITROMID); Prof Ng'ang'a following the presentations keenly

The managers were enlightened on the current eLearning status at JKUAT including the per faculty uploaded units and existing challenges. The DVC (RPE) who also made the opening remarks reminded the Deans and Directors thatthe use of Technology for learning is a global move and JKUAT cannot lag behind in this.

During the deliberations after the captivating presentations, it was agreed that each department should mobilize the ICT technicians to assist in uploading course outlines for all departmental courses. The participants noted the JKUAT has a lot of untapped potential and it is the high time that E-Learning department is given the support it deserves in order to use the technology as a delivery tool for the programmes under the recently approved School of Open, Distance and eLearning (SODeL).
